Citizenship Education Project

Abstract

The “Citizenship Education” project is implemented by the Gonçalo da Silveira Foundation (FGS), in consortium with the Research Centre for Human Development of the Catholic University of Portugal at Porto. The project is in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Citizenship Education (ENEC) and has an expected duration of 3 years (March 2019 to February 2022).

The general aim of the project is to reinforce the role of civil society organizations in public policies and in promoting a more tolerant and involved society. Its specific objectives are 1) to create a research protocol to assess the citizenship skills of lower secondary education students, in order to design programs tailored for the needs of each group and measure the impact of citizenship education actions in schools; 2) to promote citizenship skills in students from the schools involved; 3) to promote close cooperation between NGOs and schools, benefiting from their knowledge in different areas; and 4) to reinforce the intervention of NGOs in public policies.
