Maria Carmo Carvalho is an Assistant Professor at the Faculdade de Educação e Psicologia at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa. Her research focus is related to psychoactive substance uses and addictive behaviors. She started researching the most problematic aspects of drug use and addiction, moving on to the study and comprehension of drug use in recreational environments and associated phenomena of risk protection and social control, especially influencing youth. This has been the focus of her Masters and PhD studies. Maria Carmo Carvalho is Vice-President of NGO ICEERS – International Center for Ethnobotanical Education Research and Service since 2008. She is President and founding-member of the Kosmicare Association since 2016.
