Patrícia Oliveira-Silva, assistant professor in the FEP-UCP and director of the Human Neurobehavioral Laboratory (HNL), is a co-author of a scientific article published in the journal Social Development, entitled "Vagal modulation of 1-month-old infants to auditory stimuli is associated with self-regulatory behavior”. With a sample of 28 infants, the study aimed to explore the correlation between the Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA) and a neurobehavioral assessment. Our findings showed evidence that the vagal modulation in infants may represent a physiological marker of its neurobehavioral adaptation, mainly associated with self-regulation skills which underlie the establishment of healthy social interactions.
