Patrícia Oliveira-Silva invited to lead the opening conference in the V Seminar “Children’s rights: Demanding and Challenges” held by the Penafiel’s Child and Youth Protection Commission

 
Patrícia Oliveira-Silva, professor in the FEP-UCP and director of the Human Neurobehavioral Laboratory (HNL), was invited to lead the opening conference in the V Seminar “Children’s rights: Demanding and Challenges” held by the Penafiel’s Child and Youth Protection Commission. The title of the conference was “Wounds Time will not Heal: Consequences of Experiencing High Adversity in Brain Development.” Among the topics discussed during the conference, it was explained that witnessing acts of violence against someone else is debilitating even if the young our child is not the main target of the aggressor, and which are the known consequences of these experiences on the development of a young brain. The deleterious effect of abuse chronicity on neuropsychological correlates was also discussed.
